Communist University

The Communist University 2007

Saturday August 11 - Saturday August 18

New: extra meetings on 'Introduction to Marxism and the CPGB' - see below for details
Program now also available in farsi - click here to download the file in word or PDF
Available online: A4 poster, A3 poster and A5 leaflet

A week of debate and controversy for the thinking left. Hosted by the Communist Party of Great Britain and sponsored by Critique, the Organisation of Revolutionary Workers in Iran, Iran Bulletin - Middle East Forum, the Campaign for a Marxist Party, the Radical Anthropology Group and Workers Left Unity Iran

The CPGB's annual school - the Communist University - is different. It features sharp clashes of opinion on the revolutionary left, not dull lectures by left 'professors'. This educates the audience and the speakers. And who can doubt that the entire left needs some serious re-thinking? The CU features real debates - a genuine festival of ideas. We do not want another century like the last - we need clarity, unity and purpose. We need genuine communist politics again.

Highlights
Critique editor Hillel Ticktin gives a three part 'Introduction to Marxist political economy'
Russian Marxist Boris Kagarlitsky talks on 'Post-soviet capitalism'
Moshe Machover on 'The Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a regional context'
Said Ferjani (Muslim Association of Britain and Muslim Council of Britain) debates with the CPGB's Mike Macnair the question of 'Muslims, communists and democrats: alliances and solidarity work'
Chris Knight (Radical Anthropoloy Group) on 'The origins of language'
Camilla Power (Radical Anthropoloy Group) discuss if Engels was right about the leading role of women in primitive communism

Introduction to Marxism and the CPGB
In addition, we will be running a number of more informal meetings specifically designed to give an introduction to basic principles of Marxism and the politics of the CPGB.

We recommend that comrades interested in attending those read Lenin's short pamphlet Karl Marx in preparation for those meetings
