The CPGB's annual school - the
Communist University - is different. It features sharp
clashes of opinion on the revolutionary left, not dull
lectures by left 'professors'. This educates the audience
and the speakers. And who can doubt that the entire left
needs some serious re-thinking? The CU features real debates
- a genuine festival of ideas. We do not want another
century like the last - we need clarity, unity and purpose.
We need genuine communist politics again.
The timetable for this year's event is still being tweaked
and sessions juggled, but the opening weekend is settled
now:
- The school opens at 12.30pm on Saturday, August 9
with a session on 'Iran: fighting on two fronts'. The
speakers will be Yassamine Mather (Workers Left Unity
- Iran), Stuart King (Permanent Revolution) and Chris
Strafford (CPGB).
- Next comes an opening on Ireland and the evolution
Sinn Fein's politics by Kevin
Bean.
- Sunday, August 10 is given over the Radical
Anthropology Group
- 10am-12.30pm - Chris Knight, 'Primitive communism:
myth or reality?'
- 2pm-4.15pm - Camilla Power on 'Neanderthals'.
- 4.45pm-7pm - Lionel Sims, 'Stonehenge, Engels
and the Neolithic counter-revolution'.
