The Easter Rising of April 24 1916 was not simply a pivotal event in Irish history. Today, the democratic legacy of the rising is under attack. Liam O Ruairc surveys the debate

  • Crisis in Northern takes new form September 29 2005
The IRA’s decommissioning of arms marks the end of a whole period in Irish history. At such a time it is essential for communists to take stock in order to develop an appropriate response to the new situation. With this in mind Jack Conrad presented a set of draft theses to the September 25 aggregate of CPGB members, which also briefly discussed the document written by Mike Macnair, ‘Ireland’s British problem and the tasks of British communists’. The latter is not intended as a set of counter-theses, but an initial attempt to explore the programmatic aspect of some partial differences
