Back to business

Our first fund of 2001 has got off to a slow start - a very slow start. Hopefully the brilliant efforts of our readers over the last 12 months will not result in a complacency and reduced donations this year.

We need the full £400 each and every month just to keep our head above water. Last spring we showed we could produce more than that when we had to and we pulled in an extra £2,000-plus for the Weekly Worker special appeal.

So I know that the basic monthly target is well within reach. In fact we should be looking to build up a reserve fund in preparation for the future expansion of our paper.

But the first job is to make sure that after the break readers get back into the habit of sending in their donations.

That is what comrades GK, CB, JB and DS did. They all came up with small, but very welcome gifts. But, even taking into account a couple of early standing orders, we still have just £94 with more than half the month gone.

Come on, comrades, time to get back to business.
