Remarkable

After a month of encouraging returns and exceeding targets, last week has been a bit of a disappointment. Just £63 received towards our monthly target of £450. That takes the total up to £248 for May.

Of course Weekly Worker readers have been pulled in all sorts of different directions in this period. Not only our fighting fund, but the CPGB’s successful Spring Offensive, and obviously the general election campaign itself. It’s quite remarkable that our paper has not suffered, when you come to think about it.

Thanks this week to comrades GL, BJ, VD and PM for their donations - which leave us with just over £200 to raise in exactly two weeks.

Terry Rogers

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that our candidate in Tyne Bridge, Terry Rodgers, died suddenly last Thursday. Terry was a lifelong socialist and fighter for the working class. He will be sadly missed.

We believe Terry would have wanted to see his fight to raise the socialist banner in Tyne Bridge continue and therefore the Socialist Alliance will still be standing a candidate in the Tyne Bridge constituency.

Letters
Wales matters; Contradictions

Sectarian childishness
The London borough of Hackney has been in crisis ever since the formation of the Labour-Tory coalition - massive cuts, occupations, demonstrations, strikes and prosecutions for huge electoral fraud. If the left were to unite an immediate breakthrough is possible. Unfortunately - though part of the Socialist Alliance - the Socialist Party in England and Wales insists on pursuing its own narrow interests. Hackney SA officers Will McMahon and Mike Marqusee, presented this letter to the Socialist Alliance executive meeting of Saturday May 12 exposing SPEW’s decision to stand in a council by-election in opposition to the SA
