Tremendous effort

September sees both the beginning of a new fighting fund for the Weekly Worker and the return of yours truly after a three-month absence.

My place was taken over the summer by comrade Howard Roake who reported on the total of funds raised for both this paper and the CPGB during our Summer Offensive. I am pleased to announce that, in the end, we were not too far off meeting our £30,000 target. Thanks to a good few late contributions (SO gifts were coming in even after the official two-week extension), our final total was £26,228.

Congratulations to everyone for the tremendous effort. We might not have made the full amount, but we got damned close. Particular thanks to comrade SK for that brilliant £1,000 cheque after the end of Communist University. Special thanks also to comrades LW (£25), AP and RL (£10 each), not to mention DR, who sent us his extra £12 gift via our internet PayPal facility.

Talking of which, in the three weeks since the last edition no fewer than 40,362 readers have logged onto our website. No doubt several made more than one visit, hoping to read the latest paper, even though there wasn’t one before now!

We start September’s fund with £30 - sent to us from a reader in Ireland who appreciates our numerous recent articles on Sinn Féin and the socialist republican left. Another £470 needed to reach our £500 target.
