Not a great week in our campaign for increased standing order donations. Just two comrades have replied: Comrade NR, a longstanding supporter, has promised an extra £20 per month. And comrade PM has sent in a form for an extra £15 monthly as from next week. He writes: “I really should have done this much earlier, but I thought I couldn’t afford it. Now I come to think about it, though, I don’t think I’ll actually notice the difference.” The comrade adds: “In any case, if I do find myself running short towards the end of the month, I’ll just cut out something less essential than the Weekly Worker!”

Thanks, comrades - your pledges take us past the first milepost: an additional £120 in monthly SOs has now been promised. But this is some considerable way short of the target we have set ourselves, to be achieved by the end of February: £1,000 extra regular income each and every month, paid to either this paper or the CPGB. This sum would not only see us meeting current ongoing expenses, but would finance our ambitious plans for improving the Weekly Worker, our website and our ability to intervene much more effectively.

In the meantime existing standing orders paid to the paper have helped boost this month’s fighting fund (our new target is £600, don’t forget). Thanks go to MM (£60), KG (£50), AD (£25), SD (£15), AP and DO (£10 each). We have also received a couple of one-off gifts, including a tenner donated online from comrade AC - “for keeping in the theory and keeping me believing the left isn’t all full of mad sectarians!” He was one of 13,511 web readers last week.

All in all, our January fund now stands at £385. But please hurry, comrades - there are less than two weeks to go.
