Fighting Fund

Think again

Robbie Rix wants to see some plastic

I can report an excellent start to October’s fighting fund, with £285 received in the first seven days.

That is, of course, a little up on where we need to be in order to reach our £1,000 monthly target. However, bare statistics can be misleading. That figure is mostly made up by the raft of standing order donations that tend to be concentrated at the beginning of each month, and so that element will be somewhat reduced in weeks two, three, and four.

I will mention the most generous of our SO donors: SM (£40), PM (£30), DB (£25), SD, FK and CG (£20 each). Thanks to all of them, not forgetting the other comrades whose contributions, though more modest, account for a considerable amount extra every month.

Amongst the postal donations was a handy £20 cheque from comrade KL, who writes: “Thanks for the excellent insight into the far right. Your articles have really made me think again.” Good to hear it, comrade - that’s the role our paper often plays: one of challenging accepted truths. Usually those of the left.

There were just two PayPal donations this week - a rather small proportion when you consider we had 13,661 online readers. But we are grateful to LW and to CPGB activist CS, who gave a tenner each.

Since I cannot count on such a high amount from standing orders for the rest of October, let me make a polite request: please, comrades, just get out that bit of plastic and pop onto our website. Last month we went well over target and we could do with a repeat performance.
